Today I read in the newspaper that Obama is encouraging children in US to study and study hard since "the Indians and Chinese are coming to get US". He has plans to improve the education system of US by training more teachers and encouraging parents to concentrate more on the study pattern of their children.

While many Indians are outraged at Obama's strict and 'closed door' policies for India, I personally think it's commendable. The root cause of the recent recession was that the US economy was not strong since many Americans were unemployed. They took huge loans but were not able to repay it. So improving the quality of the American brain does make sense.

It definitely means bad for NRIs since their jobs (which were never theirs) will be given to Americans now (at least that's what Obama aims at). I am glad that at least one US president is introducing some good laws and policies which will help strengthen America from the core instead of destroying the rest of the world.
Indians could do well to use their skills and intelligence on home shores....it would do well for India to reverse the brain drain process.

While I commend the approach of Mr.Obama and the way you think its gonna do good to the American people..I must say that of the millions of job losses that Americans suffered due to the recession...there are only a handful of streams that Indians are employed...and IT is the highest employer of Indians or should I say Non-Americans. As much as I would love to endorse you and Mr.Obama...it is worthwhile to note that Americans brought us here to do clean up job. Indian IT companies are never involved in developing mission critical software or ground breaking innovations like google...all we do is to take care of the cleaning business while they go on to make such wonderful innovations ever known to mankind...thats the reality...and even though he wants the American people to study hard...it has got nothing to do with the current economic situation...it was purely brought upon by the greed of the banks and other lending institutions and the stupidity of the people who thought they could get away with borrowing more than what their whole generation could afford...
It is a spiralling effect of one thing leading to the downfall of the other..So I agree that Mr.Obama wants to make amends right away...but its more of a knee-jerk reaction than a planned reconstruction. I do not care either way about working here or anywhere for that matter...but if you really think all the Indians who are abroad should be brought back home...then you should be aware of the fact that its gonna dump more people back to the homeland...and questions should be asked about our economic and social conditions to support and absorb all of them....imagine our country with no outsourcing jobs...that would wipe out the entire generation of IT and services industries..which brought about the so called "economic boom" So careful what you wish for...it may come true..very soon :)

That's a very valid point you have made Somasekar...I didn't think about that side of the story. But still...I would prefer that Indians come back and do the 'cleaning' job here rather than anywhere else. Maybe that's a kiddish logic...but maybe India will actually become a superpower if all those intelligent Indians come back and work for their own country rather than adding to the GDP of some other country.

@soumya : it comes as no surprise that obama is asking american kids to study harder in order to compete with indians and chinese. i think this realization was long overdue.
south asians are one of the most hard working people in the world, especially because they are brought up in a frugal environment where they have to strive to procure basic resources.

@somasekar :i agree with your views and your comments are spot on. i really think we need to place our selfish interest higher than worry about whether or not obama is reforming the US economy/society.thousands of indians work for major firms in the US and a recent study revealed that most of the startups are initiated by indians, which only goes to show how many job opportunities indians are creating for the american people.

i agree with the point about indians only doing a clean up job. it was like an open secret all along. Maybe US could outsource Education to India too. We'd be willing to do that for as a tenth of the cost
